Making Your Website Look Professional

Far too often, people put up a website, sit back and wait for offers and money to start rolling in. Others invest a ton of money into advertising before truly learning the ins and outs of website development.

What many of these internet entrepreneurs fail to understand is that cultivating a web presence is only half of the battle. First and foremost is to make the website appeal to the audience you are seeking. This means you will have to create something that works as intended, namely, draws in potential customers.

A Website is a Marketing Tool

A professional website is one of many items in an advertising arsenal that can help plead your case to a buying public. In many ways, it is the first impression that many people will have of your business.

Make that first impression count by making sure your site aligns with your business objective and goals.

A couple of ways to do this is by observing few simple rules, namely:

1.Check for grammatical errors and typos - how can you instill confidence in a consumer if your own website if full of errors. While you could argue that the average person may be unaware of these mistakes, many are and they have money to spend too. Besides, it simply looks sloppy and makes potential customers feel as if you don't care. If you don't care, why should they?

2.Make sure pictures, inserts and query boxes are properly aligned - sometimes an error in coding can offset photos, images, inserts and things like comment boxes. The offence is forgivable if this happens on a rare occasion, but too often and it looks extremely unprofessional. One aspect of web development is to make sure that the page loads up the right way every time. Check your site periodically to ensure it is working properly.

3.Forgo or minimize the flash - While flash animation can look cool, it may not have a place on a truly professional website. One reason why is the fact that not every potential customer is going to have a computer that has the ability to handle a ton of animated graphics. Some computers could even crash because of it. This could put off customers who may have wanted to utilize your services or purchase your products.

4.Keep it plain and simple - the language as well as the graphics should be straightforward, clean and free of frills. When at all possible try not to use ALL CAPS as it can appears if you are screaming at people. Keep info in small, bite sized paragraphs and when possible, make sure the site is free of pop up ads and other forms of advertising.

Another hallmark of a professional website is that it is easy to navigate. Sites that get too fancy with graphics and colors may be visually appealing on one level, but it does visitors no good if they can't easily locate the about us, contact us or services button.

Keep Your Objective in Focus

In the end, your goal is to try to reach out to a buying public that wants what you have to sell. Your ability to achieve that goal will depend on how well you present yourself on the web. This makes maintaining and developing a professional website extremely important, as it can make all the difference between e-commerce success or failure.

Bear this in mind as you create your website and, if feasible, utilize the services of an established website developer to produce a quality, user friendly webpage.

Laptop or Desktop, Which one is Better

This is an age old question that doesn't necessarily have a right or wrong answer. Both laptop and desktop computers can be better than the other depending on the given situation and the individual needs of the person using each respective machine, but let's go over some of the advantages and disadvantages of each and try and draw some conclusion from this debate.

What do you get with a desktop computer?

Obviously a desktop computer is larger than a laptop computer, but does that necessarily mean that it's better? In some ways it does.

It's easier for a desktop computer to have a bigger memory and to hold more RAM than a laptop computer simply because there is more space available for the storage.

The space in a desktop computer will often allow the user to choose almost unlimited accessories and options that a laptop computer just may not have the space to hold. Things like a top speed processor, the latest state of the art sound and graphics cards, extra ports for external linking and more than enough storage space for all of the programs, music and video clips that you'll ever need.

The extra space also comes with one more big benefit that you don't often find with a laptop - the ability to easily upgrade. This means that you can keep your machine from becoming obsolete for much longer by continually adding the latest programs, components and accessories.

The advantages of the laptop computer

The one glaring advantage a laptop computer holds over its desktop counter part is portability. If you have a job that requires you to travel, or if you're a student living in a closet sized dormitory with three others students, a laptop computer is practically a necessity. No matter how powerful or fast your desktop computer is, you can't unplug it, take it to the subway and finish writing your report while you travel.

Despite the common misconception that all desktop computers are more powerful than all laptops, the laptop computers of today have much better technology in them than the laptops of yesterday. You will pay more for a supper powerful laptop than you will for the same caliber desktop, but then again, the lower price of the desktop won't help you on the go.

So, how do you choose?

I think the above illustrations tell you that both types of computer can be the best, depending on situation. The key isn't between choosing one over the other, it's in choosing the best computer of the type that you choose.

You need to get online and do some research on the different brands of computers to find what the best and most reliable machines are. There are a slew of different manufacturers producing computers today, you need to find which manufacturer is producing the best reviewed computers of the type that you have determined that you need and base your decision on those facts.

Buying a computer from a reputable and reliable manufacturer will ensure that you get a high quality machine. This is a piece of equipment that will be a big part of your life, hopefully, for years to come; you shouldn't look to get the cheapest price if it will mean that you are sacrificing quality. Never spend your hard earned money on a machine that has gotten a host of unfavorable reviews, or on a machine that you've never heard of.

You may end up paying a little bit more for a Samsung or Dell notebook computer than you would for a lesser known brand, but with a Samsung or Dell you will know that you are getting a top quality computer that will last a - with a lesser known brand, you never know what you'll get.

Diagnosing Bad Computer Memory

Sometimes when your computer starts acting "funny" it can be a sign the memory is damaged. The good news is memory for computer systems is inexpensive and easy to replace.

Why Does Memory Fail?

When compared to other components, memory for computer systems has a very low failure rate. It has no moving parts, unlike a hard drive, and isn't subject the heat stresses the processor or video card are. However there are a number of problems that can damage memory.

Static electricity is a common culprit. If you were in there replacing some component and forgot to discharge static from your hand just one time, you might have sent an electric shock too weak to feel but strong enough to damage the delicate microcircuitry. However even if you have never had the case open, there are other possible causes.

A power surge can damage memory for computers. Some people expect a surge will be dramatic, with sparks and smoke, but in fact it can cause subtle damage that may take days to show up. Even if you have a surge protector, you still might have "dirty" power, which is electricity with unsteady voltage. This is especially true in older buildings. Finally, dust can get inside the case and short out memory contacts.

Signs of Bad Memory

Trying to diagnose computer problems can be frustrating since there are so many components that could be the cause. Software, viruses or a faulty Windows installation could be at fault as well. Failure of memory for computer systems has some distinct symptoms that stand out.

The infamous Blue Screen of Death (BSoD) is often a sign of hardware problems. If your computer locks up with a blue screen containing cryptic messages, this is a BSoD. If it happens just once then it may just be a fluke, but if it happens repeatedly that points to serious problems. Spontaneous reboots or system freeze can also indicate hardware problems.

An important question is when it happens. If it happens only when playing certain graphic-intensive computer games, that could be a sign of a memory problem. BSoDs or reboots during other memory intensive operations such as compiling software, video editing or viewing large images also are symptoms of memory problems.

Testing and Fixing The Memory

There are a number of utilities that can confirm the existence of memory errors, such as Microsoft's Windows Memory Diagnostic. By running a memory test utility, you confirm the error is actually in the memory and not some other component. By removing all memory modules except one and testing each one in turn, you can isolate which module is the problem.

Once you have confirmed the memory problem, replace the damaged module. Reseating the memory module may fix the problem, but this is often temporary. If the module is damaged, it should be replaced. Memory for computer systems in inexpensive, so don't take the chance a damaged module could corrupt important data.

ASUS 10.1-Inch 320 GB Hard Drive Netbook

While there are many laptop users who doubtless need all of the features their full-sized laptops bring to them when they are working from home, when they are on the go, they will probably find a Netbook a more viable alternative.

For example, let's say one picks up a full-sized ASUS laptop with a heavy duty amount of memory, huge drive, great display capabilities, DVD interface, high-definition TV interface and more and with all of this horsepower available finds that he or she can only use it for three hours or so before it needs a recharge. In truth, did the user need the "monster truck" laptop to get the job done or would a sleek road-racer have done the trick, something like an ASUS X101CH-EU17-BK 10.1-Inch Netbook.

Seriously, think about this for a moment and ask yourself do you really need 8 GB of memory and a DVD/blu-ray player to complete the slides for your presentation to a sales meeting? Wouldn't a smaller computer that offers a great display and the ability to use a spreadsheet like Excel that integrates with Word and to complete some PowerPoint slides be more to the point?

Using a hugely horse-powered laptop to complete the job that a perfectly adequate Netbook like the X101CH can complete is like using the proverbial rifle to get the housefly. All you're going to do, if you are lucky enough to get near the fly is put holes into your wallboard.

Look at the X101CH and you can see what we mean. The Asus uses the Intel Atom processor (running at 1.6 GHz) which, it turns out is really a duo core processor to begin with so there's plenty of computing power there to work with. Even if you don't have mission-critical documents to complete, you'll find the sauna that is no long in the middle of your lap is quite a relief a full-sized laptops tend to run at high temperatures.

The Asus Netbook has more than enough memory to complete any job you ask it to complete -- short of doing 3D, of course, but it isn't made for that -- as it also comes equipped with 1 GB of memory and a 320 GB 5400-spin hard drive. This combination is more than powerful enough to work in the field for hours and when you are ready to upload the whole project you can do it via a USB 2.0 port or via WiFi Standard 802.11 /b/g/n (speeds from a somewhere in the 100s of Mbps to more than 300 Mbps).

The Asus is easily capable of working for hours as the tiny machine (10.3 by 0.86 by 7 inches, weighing a whole 2.5 pounds) uses a lithium-ion battery that should easily.

You won't suffer from eye strain either, as Asus has been thoughtful enough to use a 1024 by 600 resolution. The screen meets the WSVGA standard. Other features that make this a nice value are the 0.3 MP forward-facing camera so you can conduct videoconferences with Skype, for example, and the Asus also offers a true HDMI port so it is capable of producing High Definition TV support which means you can interface your camera or camcorder to the Asus so you can show people what you have been working on or swap photos with brothers and sisters.

All told, after we were finished up with the Asus, we were satisfied not only with the keyboard, but also with its size, resolution and overall performance.

The cheapest laptops to purchase

This article will give you four quick tips on what you can do to make sure you've purchased the most inexpensive laptop while giving yourself peace of mind knowing that you are looking out for your best interest. There's also a great deal of information on the seller so you can research to make sure that other people have been happy with this person. You should check to see that the seller has sold laptops for awhile and that the seller has good positive feedback. If a person's feedback is below 95%, you may want to look for a different seller to do business with. Make sure to ask questions. You are able to send messages to the seller to make sure that the laptop you want to purchase is in good shape.

The third key is to look at online classified ads for refurbished laptop computers. Make sure to get information about the specifications of the computer so that you can compare with other laptops that you may see on eBay. Once again, do not be afraid to ask questions to the sellers. Try to make sure that the sellers are reputable and see they have a website which you can take time to check out. This will allow you to become comfortable with the fact that the person is not a scam artist and is a real and reputable seller.

Finally, see if the computer which you are purchasing comes with any type of warranty. You want to give yourself protection to know that if anything does go wrong, you have a plan in place to take care of it. If you're going to spend money (at least several hundred dollars), you do not want to be out that money if something happens within the first couple weeks of having a laptop. Refurbished laptops often will have a warranty with them if you are looking at a new one. Used computers may still have a warranty but it could be voided if the original seller gets rid of the item. You want to see what type of clauses are within the warranty to make sure that your covered if you buy that particular laptop.

Laptops are a great product to purchase and the Internet has helped create a market where you can buy them inexpensively. Take time in searching for the one you want to purchase and make sure that you are covered by talking with the seller as well is getting a warranty ahead of time.
